The Scarlet Masquerade is the Social Dance Club’s first annual dance. It is held in the South Range Town Hall, which is one of the UP’s historic ballrooms. It’s capacity is at least 250 if not 300 people dancing, and even more sitting. Also, with a time slot from 11am to 12:30pm, we have enough time to have dance workshops before the dance from about noon to 4:30.
We now have local sponsors that work with us to get the Masquerade out. Nite Lite Magic is our premeire ticket seller and we hope to continue to work with them in the following years. We have also added a fashion show to the reperatoire of the dance’s attractions.
The dance is themed Red and Black, everyone is expected to try to wear a mask, that way everyone can be involved. Like in traditional masquerades, we have the unmasking at midnight. Beyond these things, we also try to align certain dances to the Scarlet Masquerade; Argentinian Tango, Blues, Slow, and Waltz are the kinds of dances that we try to teach prior to the dance as to prepare people for it.

We also look for appropriate music for the night. With the help of local and non local bands like the MTU Jazz Tech Combo, No More Blues, The Uptown Swingsters, Bob Hiltanen, Cafe Accordian Orchestra, and The Pasi Cats; we have been able to create a jazzy, sensual, and fun atmosphere between the music from all of these bands. Not to mention, we also have local solo artists come to perform for either their first time or for a returning performance.
Our first class catering from Jim Cortright’s Library Restaurant and Brew Pub will also delightfully give your night a great taste. Each of his dishes are made by chefs with much valued cooking experience, which means that your food is going to be delicious. So get ready to taste something great!
